Competition and Financial Services
The autumn meeting of the Scottish Competition Law Forum will be taking place on the evening of Monday 29 October in Edinburgh. Standard Life is kindly providing us with a venue for the occasion. Due to popular demand the topic of the evening is competition law and financial services. We are delighted to be joined on the night by Mr Christopher Clarke, deputy Chairman of the Competition Commission, who chaired the Northern Irish Personal Banking Inquiry, and Mr Sean Greenaway, from the Financial Services Unit of the European Commission, who will be providing us with unique first hand experience of the UK and EU regulators’ work in this area.
A complete programme of speakers is yet to be confirmed and contributions will be welcome if you have particular suggestions for our panel.
Financial services and competition law – a hot topic of conversation…
The financial services industry keeps finding itself at the receiving end of regulatory scrutiny, by both national and European regulators and in relation to competition as well as consumer law issues.
The last year has seen studies and investigations conducted into store cards, SME banking, Northern Ireland personal banking, credit card interest rates, retail banking, unauthorised overdraft charges, payment protection insurance, interchange fees, business insurance, and the list goes on.
Our speakers will share with us some of the issues they have encountered as a result of their involvement in these investigations.
