Competition and the regulated utilities 18 September 2008

Our autumn event, hosted by KPMG LLP, will consider competition’s increased role in the regulated utilities, the manner in which competition is being developed in these utilities and the impact these changes may have on utilities and consumers.

We will hear from both regulators and those with experience of working in regulated utilities, which will give us a fascinating insight into the process of developing competition in regulated utilities and the practical consequences of the introduction of competition.

Our chair for the evening will be Charles Coulthard, a member of the Water Industry Commission for Scotland and the Chair of the Gas and Electricity Consumers Council in Scotland.

Our speakers for this event include:

  • Professor George Yarrow - non-executive member of the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority and Director of the Regulatory Policy Institute
  • John Grady – Advocate, Hastie Stable, and formerly in-house legal counsel at Scottish Power
  • Rhodri Thompson QC – counsel to Albion Water acting in the CAT and Court Appeal

Following the principal presentations there will be ample opportunity for wider discussion with our speakers and the chance for informal networking with a glass of wine.
